Shrewsbury Optometry

Characterful.
Modern.
Welcoming.

Shrewsbury Optometry has been among the biggest transformations of an optical premises carried out by Mewscraft. This characterful listed building was previously a bar and hotel in the centre of Shrewsbury. Located on the river Severn, this market town is enriched with Medieval and Tudor architecture. The Optical practice was relocated to this charming building, and of course, the refurbishment was quite involved!

Mewscraft undertook all of the trade works on the ground and 1st floor. In addition, bespoke furniture design, installation and a listed building application was made to the council. The owners were able to run their existing practice down the road, whilst over the course of 4 months, the space was transformed into a modern, charismatic practice.

The focal point was the spacious dispensing room with the grand dispensing desk with a glass top showcase.  The backdrop to this is the clean and elegant LED-lit shelving display behind. This boutique interior aims to restore and highlight the original features of this classic Tudor building. The space is highlighted with bespoke modernist furniture, creating a contemporary interpretation of the unique heritage.
