Richard Rawling approached us witha design brief to refurbish their busy Caterham practice. The brief was to open up the space by removing a central partition wall
which involved structural work, and a full refurbishment of the main retail
area and two of the consulting rooms.
The design was to be contemporary but welcoming and to suit and reflect its location of Caterham. There was also a wish to maintain and develop the Rawlings
brand identity which Mewscraft developed with them when refurbishing
the Chandlers Ford practice in 2012. This meant taking the look a step
further…more contemporary, with an even higher standard of displays,
lighting and furniture.
Claire, our talented Interior Designer achieved this by combining
geometric white clinical Concept.s displays with curved bespoke dark
wood finish furniture items designed specifically to suit the practice. The
light flooring contrasted with the dark finish of the furniture. The
bespoke seating was a large part of the design and the textured
wallpaper added another dimension to it, softening the overall look whilst
integrating the Rawlings brand colours. The carefully designed curved
partition wall had a large transparent panel integrated into it, helping to
define the private dispensing area without creating a barrier.
With varying ceiling heights we designed a comprehensive lighting
scheme which comprised of ambient lighting and perimeter spot lights to
illuminate the wall mounted displays. Halo lighting is used to highlight
feature areas of display, the bespoke reception desk includes integrated
LED lighting, and geometric pendant lighting is used to define the
reception and dispensing areas. As you enter the premises you are
immediately struck by the crisp, fresh graphics on the Reception desk.
The look and feel of the space tell you that you are in what has to be the
most outstanding Optical practice in Caterham and the surrounding
Altogether the individual elements of the design merge together and
create a great scheme that is light, spacious and inviting.
