Richard Stent Optometrists approached Mewscraft at 100% Optical in 2017. Richard and his wife, Rachel, required assistance in moving their current practice to a new building within the heart of Ilminster.
The new practice was to be set in a gorgeous listed building, previously home to a bank. The buildings interior benefitted from an abundance of natural light with large windows, as well as a garden and beautiful views.
Utilising their existing brand colours, Richard and his sister, Caroline, worked closely with Mewscraft to develop a scheme of displays and furniture that suited both their new building and their current brand identity. It was important to the clients that the practice experience be unique and sophisticated. Keen to keep the space open and not cluttered, they decided against having a main reception desk and instead opted for two smaller, central, pod desks. This decision allowed them to maximise the amount of light flowing into the space from the tall windows. A curved partition wall with central transparent screen offered more privacy to the consulting areas. Likewise, a bench seat with a suspended Array system above, provided separation between the main retail space and the VIP area without closing it off completely.
Mewscraft fitted a mixture of rods, LED shelving, cubes and backlit displays. The LED lighting helped create that modern, clean feel and really made the frames sparkle. New partition walls were built with recessed sections for the displays to sit inside, maintaining that clean and contemporary look throughout.
Due to the building requiring extensive refurbishment, the clients already had contractors on site. Mewscraft provided a technical drawings package that included dimmable lighting, electrics, partitioning, flooring, furniture, decoration, plumbing, ceiling and displays for use by these contractors.
The finished practice is beautifully modern, light, calming and a lovely reflection of the building’s listed status. A joy to be a part of and a wonderful result for Richard, Rachel, and the whole team.
