Harry Muker approached us with a very clear idea of what he hoped his refitted practice would look like. He needed us to bring it to life, and so we worked with him on his ideas and came up with the solutions!
The challenge was to modernise the former David Clulow practice, which retained its dated aqua coloured cabinets and maple laminate worktops. We replaced these with new, much needed runs of storage on either side of the shop. These were made up of a mixture of frame drawers and cupboards, all in a sophisticated dark wood finish, covered with a glossy white worktop.
To keep costs down, we kept the original reception desk carcass and gave it a complete make over with new worktop, matching panelling and LED lighting. The cupboards behind the desk were also re-furbished rather than replaced.
The original cheap laminate floor was ripped out and replaced with a lovely warm commercial grade oak vinyl.
Lighting played a key role in the scheme with Harry’s request for energy efficient LEDs to be present as much as possible. We removed the unsightly, inefficient ceiling grid lights and fitted some elegant, flush LED panels in their place. The small halogen bulb spots were replaced for powerful, retail quality recessed spot lights and the new acrylic panelled displays were backlit to create the wow factor Harry was after. All the backlit panels were fitted with remote control dimming, so that the brightness could be controlled.
Working with Harry was a pleasure, and his attention to detail was impressive. The bright lights of Maidenhead are even brighter…but luckily they can be dimmed!
