We met Jude Edwards at Optrafair London, in the Spring of 2014.
He filled us with enthusiasm from the moment we met him, with his plans to open a bold new Optical practice in his home town of Bedford.
After a hunt for a suitable premises he homed in on an empty site, which had previously been a specialist Hi-Fi shop, complete with sand filled acoustic walls! Jude’s brief was exciting for us as he wanted to create an optical practice with a difference.
The refurbishment would include a lecture room for ophthalmic education talks and presentations. The dispensing area would be large and impressive including a dedicated children’s area, a specialist sports section and the very latest display products to feature the frames he would be offering.
Mewscraft’s interior designers rose to the challenge. Jude had his lecture room, his sports area complete with simulated wind machine, his children’s area, LED lighting throughout, new consulting room ad the opportunity to create a second, a pre-screen room with a glass wall and The Move (Sushi Bar) display in the window. But above all, the space feels different to conventional optical practice. It really does feel like a show-room ad once inside, you know you are somewhere special.
Our shopfitters transformed the empty shell, building partitions, installing new electrics, ceilings, flooring, decorating throughout and fitting all the new displays and furniture.
This took approximately four weeks on site, and the new practice, Healthy U Optometrists, opened in July 2015.
Feel free to watch our interview with Edwards of Healthy U Optometrists, discussing the process and benefits of his practice refurbishment.
